Applications of Environmental Valuation

Valuation is used in the following manners

  • Analyzing policies and project, often using Cost-Benefit Analysis (CBA)
  • Natural resource management
  • Litigation suits seeking punitive and compensatory rewards because of environmental damage
  • Informing the government in the setting of eco-taxes
  • In order to give a nation a ballpark figure in an index of its natural wealth

So it crucial in many areas of the government and legal activities to know what the value of various environmental goods are.
